Proceedings:
Today we moved swaption to exotic options, and discussed other hierarchy changes to clean things up. This included renaming exchange-traded option to vanilla option, as some 'exotic' options are now sort-of exchange traded as well. We reviewed the resulting hierarchy, and need confirmation that (1) swaptions should be classified as exotic, and (2) what to do with others, including basket options, options on futures, and so forth. We also need to add combination options, and classify those properly as well. John will investigate and get back to me with suggestions for definitions for combinations.
Reviewed basket options - definition from investopedia: A basket option is a type of financial derivative where the underlying asset is a group, or basket, of commodities, securities, or currencies. As with other options, a basket option gives the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the basket at a specific price, on or before a certain date. Other changes included adding a couple of explanatory notes. Elisa will push the resulting changes out to DER-99 so that FCT members can review them, and will send a zip file with the ontologies to John Gemski for local review and for addition input on combinations.
