Business' relevance

The EV code (eudraVigilance code) is a global unique code that identifies an entity (e.g. substance, product, etc.) within the XEVMPD (Extended EudraVigilance medicinal product dictionary). The XEVMPD is a database that collects, reports, codes, and evaluates data on products that already exist or are in the developmental stage in a standardised and structured manner, with the aim of evaluating adverse reactions of the products. Marketing-authorization holders and sponsors of clinical trials have to submit information on authorized and investigational medicines to the EMA (European Medicines Agency). Upon successful submission of data on a new medicinal product, an EV code is assigned to the XEVMPD entity for clear identification of that particular product. With the implementation of IDMP, the EV codes will be transformed into the relevant SMS (Substance Management Services) codes and terms. Thus there is a need to link the EV code (future SMS code) with the substance it refers to, for clear identification of products and all related information.
