Discussion
Upcoming use cases:
Green / sustainability loans
Digital assets
Mortgages (complete the work) / MBS
Other near term needs include (1) eliminating deprecated elements from Commons 1.2 so that we can integrate Commons 1.3, (2) use of MVF for controlled vocabularies such as ACTUS, and (3) documentation for some of the patterns we use to help people come up to speed and leverage FIBO.
Green loan:
From Copilot
A green loan is a type of financing designed to support projects that have a positive environmental impact. These loans are typically used to fund initiatives like renewable energy projects, energy-efficient building upgrades, or sustainable agriculture.
Here are some key points about green loans:
Purpose: To fund projects that contribute to environmental sustainability.
Eligibility: Projects must meet specific environmental criteria.
Principles: Green loans adhere to the Green Loan Principles (GLPs), which ensure transparency and promote integrity in the development of the green loan market.
Examples: Installing solar panels, upgrading to energy-efficient appliances, or purchasing electric vehicles.
ESG loan:
Broader than green loans, without limitations on the use of proceeds.
Questions: Are leases covered under green loans? under ESG loans? If so, then the category for ESG loan should apply to all ‘credit agreement repaid periodically’, including lease, loan, and credit facility?
How is a green lease distinct from a green loan?
Are credit facilities, including those for construction, considered from an ESG perspective?
Thoughts on structure: create a new ontology in parallel with the existing loans ontology, and then add these concepts and their relationships there.
For next week, we will create a seed ontology that includes some of the relevant terms and start to add them to that ontology as a way of moving forward. Included in that model will be ways of modeling targets, outcomes, reference sources for establishing the credibility of the outcomes, etc.
